I like this idea, I was think about this but you beat me to the punch. Good background too.
Ingenious, specially given that any Galatan 'fast reaction unit' has to move in interior lines: may turn to an efficient 'multiplier of forces' for a besieged province.
And, since the Galatans are the ones in position to ambush Castillan columns, no need to have the passengers facing outwards, which would make the contraption heavier.
