Help...

General MacKay, in command of of the Ducal Artillery, engineers and train- not to mention celebratory pyrotechnics, presents his compliments to one and all. He asks for help with:
1 drill books showing 18th century grenadiers using grenades and the drill employed
2 accounts of modern experiments recreating 18th century grenades and their use ( if any exist)
3 photos of re-enactors using them .
many thanks
Aneas MacKay

I have S.J. Gooding's Military Exercises: 1730 "with an introduction by S.J. Gooding" that is a reprint with translations of the German Fascinating Instructions in the movements of MILITARY EXERCISES shown in all stages with the Flint-lock, Bayonet and Grenade by Johann Jacob Wolrab.

There are eight figures of grenade exercises wtih the men wearing WSS-style, loose-skirt coats with fur caps like short hussar kolpaks with a flaming grenade brass badge on their fronts.

Grenades weren't often used in the field outside of sieges after the WSS, so I don't know that you'd be able to find any turnbacked-coats figures grenade drilling.

For example, I also have J.A. Houlding's French Arms Drill of the 18th Century: 1703-1760, and even its 1703 & 1704, let alone the 1750 & 1755, drills don't illustrate any grenade drill.

Do you want me to scan JPGs of the two plates of movements and the translations of the "exercise" for you?
