Mini-Campaign Challenge

Most of us are familiar with Charles Stewart Grant's wonderful book "Scenarios for Wargames".

I propose using it . . . or rather the scenarios in it to create some mini-campaigns . . . a series of logically linked scenarios that will provide the framework for a series of games.

Sure, Grant and Phil Olley have done something similar in their volumes "Raid on St. Michel" and "The Annexation of Chiraz" . . . and they are wonderful . . . but I'm looking for some simpler, quick and easy solutions that we can all use.

So here is the challenge . . .

Create a series of three to seven scenarios from Grant's "Scenarios for Wargames" that will make for a logical simple mini-campaign of linked scenarios.

You can even, if you like, make a "campaign tree". That is to build it in the format of "if Red won Scenario A, go to Scenario B . . . and if Blue won, go instead to Scenario C, etc.

Let's see what you can come up with, okay?

====================

Also, an update on my health. First, I wish to thank all of you who have posted your kind wishes for my recovery . . . there is no need to repeat doing so . . . please use the "comment" feature of this post for "mini-campaign" suggestions.

Overall I feel much better although I do tire very quickly due to all of the blood I lost and my resulting low hemoglobin level
.

Also the hospital has changed my visit to the operating room from Monday to Wednesday, when they will hopefully find out what's wrong with me.

Out of Hospital

Gentlemen,

Thank you for all of your kind thoughts.

As Murdock reported, I have been in Hospital. Without going into details, I have lost a great deal of blood and am weaker than wet tissue paper . . . but can now rest better at home than in hospital.

I go back in on the 13th for an exploratory diagnostic procedure. Overall my condition is not considered life threatening although there is always some risk with surgical procedures.

Murdock (with whom the concept of this group blog was first explored) has been designated with co-inhaber powers should anything unexpected occur.

Once again, my thanks for all of your kind wishes . . . and I will appreciate any positive energy or prayers on the 13th.

Long live Grand-Duke Konrad?

The contents of Grand-Duke Otto of Pommaine's will was read out today in the ducal palace, his elder surviving son Karl has been passed over in the succession and his youngest son Konrad named as his heir.

Of course any change of this sort should be agreed in advance with the Lower Saxon Circle to which Pommaine belongs and then if necessary raised with the Emperor. No discussion appear to have taken place with either body and in a surprisingly sudden move the Imperial ambassador declared the succession void and that forthwith the Empire was at war with the usurpers.

The exact position of Prussia and Alsace who openly supported the change in succession is not yet clear, but war seems likely.

Bluebear Jeff is reported in stable condition and recovering well.

Further medical tests will be needed and we may or may not hear from him before the 10th of February.

Thank you all for your well wishes.

Cross of Sant Jordi to King of Wittenberg

Following a suggestion of Princess Elisenda, the Galatan Corts or Parliament have agreed awarding His Majesty King of Wittenberg (*) the Cross of Sant Jordi d'Alfama, 1st class, in recognition for the warm welcome and assistance to the Princess during her stay in the above mentioned kingdom, as well as for His admirable support attitude toward Knowledge and Science --as witnessed by Her Highness from the sky!!!

[Out of character: given the relative asinchrony of my own Imagi-Nation with respect to Wittenberg's time, I eagerly leave in hands of Allan to decide whether it is King Leopold IV who's awarded, or His August father instead ;) ]

Proxy naval battle AAR

Thanks to the selfless collaboration of Jeroen72, another proxy fighting played for the Defiant Principality can be now read at our weblog. Despite the lack of game pictures, I honestly believe that Jeroen72's thrilling account allows us to vividly imagine the scene. On my side, I've done my best to illustrate the narration with images the most appropriate I've been able to find.

If curious, you can read the whole AAR at this blog posting.

PROXY BATTLE AAR

The After Action Report for the Proxy Battle will be up shortly on MurdockS MarauderS.

We has some fun setting up for the game, it was blazing fast! With only two small cavalry forces being in action this should come as no surprise.

Historic Time Line

The History of Hesse-Kassoulet's Royal lineage is now complete. Complete as far as good manners will allow and with out letting any skeletons out of the closet. Link

Why are the skeletons still in the closet, hmmph, domestics nowadays.

Scandal in Hesse-Cassoulet

Fronsay Marshal Vile Lars (Vile by name vile by nature) arrived in court today in a rather agitated mood.  Whats this all about?

Where's that scoundrel Tall Lard

Proxy games available

Due to a thankfully happy event (my gaming mate's wife is about to have their second child), we're in the dilemma of either halting our Imagi-Nation's campaign for several weeks, or seeking a temporary gaming adversary, or seeking EvE's community help by proxy gaming some of our most recent military encounters.

It also happens that our 13th campaign turn, corresponding to the 2nd week of October 1713, has produced up to three different confrontations. All of them involving a small amount of troops, all different to each other: a field battle between two balanced Horse forces, a street fighting between a town's garrison and its revolted population, and the naval interception of a small convoy by a privateer.

If necessary, I could gather the figures due for gaming the second battle, although most scenario items should be improvised somehow. But I have neither Horse forces or ships enough for the other two. Is anyone needing a scenario for training his generals/admirals skills?

Some more info at this blog posting. Detailed scenario data would be worked out for eventual volunteers, of course.
