There I was, all set to urge Furst Bruno V of the Principality of Saxe-Bearstein to ally with Hesse-Seewald against Gallia . . . then the bottom fell out . . . now I don't know what to do?
Those vile Stagonians are firmly in the Gallic camp (heck, even their uniforms ape those of France) . . . and Saxe-Bearstein seems to always be on the opposite side of Stagonia (after all, they are vile . . . most decidedly vile).
Then I read the OSW post wherein Alte Fritz recounted how Hesse-Seewald had invaded Bohemia last year and been driven back by the Imperium. Furthermore, they seem to be readying yet another invasion . . .
Bohemia is where Saxe-Bearstein is . . . in fact all of Bohemia is really Saxe-Bearstein. So what am I to urge my Prince to do? Ally with the nation that has further plans to invade us? Or join forces with that vile Stagonian, Graf Maurice von Hirschbock, and Gallia? (If we do that, the Graf will never let us live that down).
I'm stumped. I feel like Piedmont must have felt in the War of Spanish Succession earlier this century.
Hmmm, if only I could convince the vile Stagonians (and notice how "vile" seems to go so naturally with "Stagonians") to betray Gallia and support Hesse-Seewald . . . yes that would solve things.
I'm open to suggestions as to how to accomplish that.

obtain a selection of french uniforms (should be easy as there is a glut of them in central europe ~ like that all of the time?!?) and arrange for an 'incident' on the french side of the Stagonian territory.
the incident needs only to appear as though gallia is preparing to invade Stagonia, as long as you have some good officers whom can stand to smell like garlic and speak froggy well it should be a cinch to convince your 'vile' Stagonian leader that just such a move is being 'prepared'...
And of course, there is always the element that our apocryphal states do, to some extent, exist in little folds of nonsense between the real states. So perhaps, though sharing space with the real entities, one may assume an invasion of one is not necessarily an invasion of the other?
l'Comte de Legerdemain's informants have been listening to all this you know. The former has the ear of the Gallian Foreign Minister the Prince de Charade and there are two Gallian armies, no sorry - three, poised to march in a matter of....

Actually, history is replete with records of natural enemies combining against a common foe. Since Gallia is the force capable of restraining Hesse-Seewald, then Saxe-Bearstein could offer to ally with them on condition that their units and any forces or agenst of Stagonia be kept separate.
I'd love to host a barbeque to discuss this over a flagon or five of various potables ....

Or maybe fomr a coalition or league. Or a confederation of apocryphal states could form to stave off the imagined (imaginary?) invasion. Or simply an offer of a princess' hand in marriage or something of that nature. Maybe offer an honorary colonelcy in one of the Saxe-Bearstein units?

Would not this make Saxe-Bearstein a Roman Catholic country? If you bother to care to this side of 'your' culture & additionally bother to care for 'historical precedents' that would just mean that your grenadiers are more likely to wear bearskins than mitres, and your line inf. will probably avoid the 'lutherian' dark blue. Religious alignement had little impact in alliances & hostilities by the LaceWars times - less, ar least, than during the Renaissance & 30YW....
