A New Neighbor to the North

Greetings from the Margraviate of Ost-Pommern and the Court of Ludwig V. Ludwig IV "the rotund," having recently been gathered unto the Lord, has passed his mantle on to his 7 year old heir. Daily administration of the realm has devolved upon the regent Baroness Liesel von Schroeder, mistress to the late Ludwig IV. The Baroness it would seem has scant regard for young Ludwig V and intends to hold onto power even after he attains his majority. The Baroness's daughter Katerina has ambitions of her own and is the object of dozens of suitors and a number of scandalous rumors.

The Margraviate of Ost-Pommern is situated on the Baltic coast between Pomerania and East Prussia. The Ost-Pommern army is small but well administered, consisting of four regiments of foot and two of horse. A number of foreign officers serve in the army and the recent intrigues in the court seem to attract even more. Notable among the foreign officers is the noted French architect, rake and adventurer, the Marquis d'Façade. The civil administration has also fallen under the sway of the Baroness's foreigners especially the new Finance Minister, le Comte de Monet. Fops and scoundrels of every stripe have ingratiated themselves with the Baroness and infested the court to the detriment of young Ludwig's fortunes.

Retired General-Leutnant Albert von Krause, loyal servant to the old Landgrave has taken the Ludwig V under his tutelage. The native officers of the Army, at least those not trying to bed the Baroness's daughter Katerina, zealously guard the lad. They are constantly on guard against any plot hatched by the Marquis d'Façade and the other foreigners loyal to the Baroness. Young Ludwig is safe for now, but as the heroes who carried his father's standards to victory in the last war pass on, the clique of officers in the Baroness's camp grows stronger.

Welcome, is the land a papal state? If so Cavenderia would most certainly open diplomatic relations.

Welcome, sir. If you have either a website or a blog for the Margraviate of Ost-Pommern, I would like to know the URL so that I can add it to our links on the right of EvE.

While Ost Pommern is ostensibly a Lutheran state, the ruling Margraves have allowed their subjects to worship freely since 1648. The Baroness von Schroeder and a great many of her minions are papists, a source of much chagrin among the old guard who look to young Ludwig for a revival of their fortunes.

Sounds like interesting times are in store for Ost-Pommern! If things get too hot for young Ludwig and/or his supporters, they would receive a warm welcome at Heidlebeerenburg in the Markgravate of Raubenstadt. The current Markgraaf's grandfather was just one step above being a river pirate, and so the Markgraaf is all about rights of proper sucession.

If you haven't already, I urge you to take the plunge and join this merry band of kindred souls! It's a hoot and a half; and you may find your characters and Imagi-nation taking on a "Frankenstein" like life of their own, and branching out into new and unexpected directions.

Welcome to our merry brotherhood(*)!

I warmly second Martin's suggestion: obviously you have a good start in the discovery of all the enjoyments that spice the life of an Imagi-Nation builder. Storyteller, genealogist, archivist, detective, cartographer, heraldrist (?), uniform designer, ruler and field commander... A blog of your own would allow you to share more easily your progresses and achievements with us, for our edification and enjoyement. It's quite easy: even a dinosaur from the mechanical typewriters era such as myself was able to open a blog!

Cheers,
Jean-Louis

Let me echo my esteemed E vs. E cohorts, welcome! It sounds like Ost-Pommern might potentially be a good ally for the Grand Duchy of Stollen, which is not so very far away, just on the other side of Prussia. Do you have a map of your territory, or better still a blog or website? Please tell us more.

Best Regards,

Stokes

Welcome (and my compliments on a well-crafted narrative). His Majesty, High King Joern Carlos XI, extends his sympathies to young Ludwig, on the loss of his father (not to mention for any heir whose problems are greater than his own...which are considerable).

His Grace will light a candle for young Ludwig and for the preservation of his health and dignity against the hungry wolves who prowl the margins of his estate.

Greetings from the Electorate of Luftberg, and it's ruler Ulrich von Luftberg who is most eager to open diplomatic links.

Good luck with a blog, which really is surprisingly rewarding once you get going - and you're already off to a great beginning!

His Royal Highness Friedrich II of Germania extends his greetings and felicitations to his little cousins in Ost-Pommern. Hopefully those Gallian intruders in the court will not get out of line and cause Us to pay a little visit.

We would like to offer a ceremonial Inhabership in one of Our regiments to little Ludwig as a token of Our friendship.

Friedrich Rex
