18th Century Middle Eastern Forces

As a passing piece of whimsy, has anybody considered an imaginery Middle Eastern army modelled on, say the Ottoman Turks, Persians or Moghul Indians?

I haven't, but I think it would make a very interesting and colourful addition to the imagi-nations.

Me neither, but I agree with trailape.
I have thought of bringing in a few American Indians or other non-European types into my own forces, but not a whole new army at this point! (A Japanese-type ImagiNation might be cool - maybe some day... or not; I have enough future projects in mind! lol)

I have always had a soft spot for the Ottoman Turks and the Moghuls so I shall have to see what I can come up with. Certainly the Turks kept the Austrians and the Russians periodically entertained during the 18th century....;-)

Not whimsical at all (unless you field 'Turkish' troop types from the 'Munchausen' movie - and even then...).
So much color, diversity, exoticism, so many different minis to enlist (depite the lamented closure of the London War Room)!
There was some scimitar rattling in the 'Emperor vs Elector' Mediterranean Sea, but we are lacking a powerful Eastern country.

Hi Abdul666 - good to hear from you again. I am thinking that with the plethora of European types kicking around some Eastern colour may be a pleasant change. Besides, given the diversity of troop types within the Turkish Empire the possibilities are endless - even including mercenary Europeans. I think this may have more legs in it for me than Kronenbourg and Artois..........;-)

Cavenderia is currently waring with The Deylicate of Bizerrca, which includes Bashi Bazouks and anatlolian Sekhans, more of a northern africa nation but with ottoman flavors, I am sure nation would be an immediate threat to Morea and Cavenderia, Greece and Dalmatia respectively. Morea seeks relative peace but Cavenderia is opposed to any pagan influence in the sphere.

The Morean army has eastern elements in the form of Jannisaries, and Sipahis, as well as martoli. But a new power would be great. Remember that to my knowledge no one has taken the Ottomans as an imagi-nation.

By the way expect an an update after the 18th. Currently writing one paper after the other.

In our 'alternate' 18th C. the Mighty POwer of the Levant may field forces as 'exotic' and diverse as those of Ancient Persia: Mongols (instead of Bactrians), Beduins, Pathans, zamberek camels, jingal elephants... What a sight!

I have set aside some models for conversion and sculpting out that are from the Ottomans in the 1650's to 1800's period.

Sadly my work and family time has expanded exponentially right now and left me with very little time to follow these pursuits.

The next few months will be filled, while the coming winter may have more time to complete the Austrians, with my plan to move into the Balkans and Black Sea regions it has always meant that the Ottomans were a part of my mix.

My challenge will be to release enough time to complete my current projects before moving on.
